How SKC Got Her Groove Back
Writing this a few days before Snack King Comics officially re-launches ever since we paused releases and updates during the pandemic. The state of the world was devastating to comic production, both in that our day jobs (mostly in food service) became more strenuous and it was psychologically taxing trying to make goofy comics while plague ravaged the land. This was a similar story for most people’s lives, of course, but this was still our reality and the progress as a start-up publisher came to a screeching halt. Especially since we couldn’t go to any live events, shows, or conventions to build a larger audience…
But we’re super back on track now!
SKC has been in heavy production for the past year or so, readying content for regular, monthly releases. Both Man Boy and Wei Station Diner will see new issues every single month while both series’ 1st seasons are in production. There’ll also be a number of even smaller comic snacks, mostly from Man Boy, via Instagram and the like. We only have a few shows lined up this summer, but as Man Boy Season 1 will release near the beginning of fall, we’ll be signing up for more and bigger conventions from then on out!
As a little production update:
I have all the issues of Man Boy Season 1 written (boy, is the season finale gonna be sick!). The Man Boy art team is basically done with ¾’s of Season 1 and Lance has drawn up a ton of bonus content outside the main comics.
With Wei Station Diner, I’ve completed about ¾’s of the scripts for Season 1 and Matt’s fully inked roughly a 1/3rd of the issues. WSD S1 will have a solid 50+ more pages than Man Boy S1 and Matt’s doing all the coloring for the moment… but even so, we’re on schedule to launch the Kickstarter for Season 1 in exactly a year from this post! As a serialized series, I’m very excited to witness the first major arcs of Ruthie and Cuss unfold over the next year. The entire series is fully outlined and is already a special story in my heart!
When Lance and I wrap up Season 1 of Man Boy, we’ll finally release the 1st issue of Tech Guardians. That’ll be rad too.
Anywhoooooooooooo, I’m pumped that SKC is back in action and on track. Even though we’ve been radio silent for the past two years, making these comics has remained one of the most important aspects of our lives. We literally dedicate most our weeks, sacrificing leisure and social life, to making our need to read these goofy comics a reality. We appreciate any who’ve wondered where we’ve been recently and anyone who reads this post years from now, curious what was going on when SKC was first getting started.
